The unit in beautiful Columbia continues to provide volunteer services in four different hospitals. Supervisors express their appreciation for the girls and their cheerful assistance, and the girls enjoy their chance in a lifetime to give six rewarding months of service.
There are six girls and their house parents enjoying their work in Columbia, Missouri. We moved into a larger house located on five acres to accommodate six girls. The girls have a variety of responsibilities at three different hospitals which include: University Hospital, Boone Hospital and UM Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Two afternoons a week they take turns helping at the Columbia Mennonite Guest Home.
The hospital work involves working at the front desk, Ambulatory Infusion Unit, and the gift shops, delivering mail and meals and working in the medical library. They answer the phone in the volunteer office, deliver e-cards and flowers, help in the surgery-waiting room, and the cancer center.
The girls sing at various local retirement centers on Wednesday evenings. The local congregations help with singing and then join them for snacks and fellowship at the Guest Home afterwards. Most Sundays they are involved in Sunday School and services at the Guest Home Chapel.
